Ekwuribe’s father, Mr Andrew Ogazi, a security man, told newsmen in Umuahia on Thursday that the incident happened around 7.30 p.m. last Friday.

“I learnt that from there, a fight ensued and the suspect grabbed a bottle at the bar, broke it and stabbed him on the left arm.
“He reportedly bled profusely from the deep cut until he slumped and was rushed to a nearby maternity at Ahia-Ukwu Olokoro for first aid,” he said.

Ex-councillor stabs teenager for refusing advances

A former councillor of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Onimole Babatunde, is currently being detained at the Area E Police Command, Festac, Lagos for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old girl in the neck after she refused his advances at a night club.
On October 26, Mariam Abubakar went to Pearl Habour Night Club in Rochester Garden Hotel, Festac to “catch weekend fun.”
Her friend, who pleaded anonymity, said they only went there “to hang out” when Babatunde, who was obviously drunk, started to make advances to Abubakar.
She said, “She was not interested in him so she did not answer when he called her. He was dancing and Mariam (Abubakar) was sitting at a table. He was obviously drunk and he came to pull her.
“He was manhandling her and she insisted he should leave her alone. This did not go down well with Babatunde and he was really angry. He went to a corner, took a bottle, broke it and stabbed Mariam in the neck.”
According to the source, Babatunde fled the scene immediately.

A police source at Area E told our correspondent that the preliminary report obtained indicated that the incident occurred at about 1:30am.
He said Abubakar bled profusely at the scene before she was taken to Naval Hospital, Ojo by sympathisers at the night club.
The source said she was not admitted because those who took her there could not produce a police report.
“That was when someone notified our station (Area E Command) and we went to take her to Ajeromi General Hospital,” he said.
It was learnt that as Abubakar was being taken to the general hospital, she went into a coma.
She was said to have been revived at the general hospital. A nurse at the hospital, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent that she had lost about 20 per cent of her blood.
Abubakar is currently under intensive care at the hospital.
However, the police said the night club workers destroyed evidence at the scene of the alleged crime by cleaning up Abubakar’s blood on the floor.
The hotel has currently been sealed off by the police because the management did not report the incident.
It was learnt that the police got wind of Babatunde’s whereabouts, said to be holing up somewhere in Ikoyi and called him to simply come and write a statement. But he was detained immediately he got to the station.
The police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, said she had not been briefed on the case.

IMO STATE GOVERNOR ORDERS IMMEDIATE CLOSURE OF STRIP CLUBS.

DISTURBED by the high level of immorality it has caused among Imo people, the State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has ordered the immediate closure of all clubs where women dance in the nude.
Imo state governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha,

Briefing journalists on Tuesday in Owerri, the state capital, Okorocha regretted that the state had been turned into  ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’ of the Bible where young girls dance completely naked in the clubs at night, threatening to deal with any such club operator who fails to carry the order.
He said: “This administration will not tolerate any lawlessness any more. We notice some lawlessness in the state and this government will deal ruthlessly with anybody found to be exposing our young girls. Enough of this nonsense.”
It was discovered by The Guardian that several nude clubs operate in many parts of Owerri with certain days designated for particular activities, such as dancing with their pants on, or completely naked.
The governor, who noted that such clubs were havens for criminals, directed immediate enforcement of the law on demolition of any house found to be a hideout for kidnappers.

While commending  security operatives in the state for rescuing a five- year- old baby from kidnappers, who stormed a village in Isiala Mbano, he urged the  State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adisa Bolanta, to direct his men to work harder to secure the state during the festive period.
Also speaking,  Bolanta said the command  has successfully apprehended three suspects who allegedly masterminded the murder of the ruler of Umueze Abazu Ogwa, Mbaitoli Local Council, Eze Stanley Akuneto, last May, adding that they had been arraigned in court.
Bolanta also assured the family of the abducted Permanent Secretary in the office of the Deputy Governor of the state, Emenike Ihekwuaba , of the preparedness to track down his kidnappers and that from all indications, he was still alive in their den.

AKWA IBOM DEPUTY GOVERNOR, NSIMA EKERE RESIGNS

AKWA Ibom State Deputy Governor, Mr. Nsima Ekere, on Wednesday resigned his position with immediate effect and without official explanation.
His Chief Press Secretary, Inemesi Ina, in a statement, said Ekere resigned “on personal grounds” and declined to elaborate.
However, there were indications that the Deputy Governor’s resignation might not be unconnected with his governorship ambition.
The Civil Liberties Organisation chairman in the state, Mr. Clifford Thomas, described Ekere’s resignation as a conspiracy.
He added that Ekere had been nursing the ambition to contest the governorship of the state.
He said, “Ekere is not going to wait if he is asked to wait for someone from Uyo senatorial district who had had their turn in the person of Governor Victor Attah. There is a conspiracy yet to be known.
“Ekere is not going empty just like that, he is going to disclose a lot of things; there are arm-twisting.
“It’s a very sad thing: I want to see competition in this state and not arm twisting people. He might have endured a lot of things.”

Mr. Nsima Ekere
Chairman, Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Linus Udofia, said the resignation of Ekere was not good for the government.
He described Ekere as very quiet and intelligent, saying whatever forced him to resign would have been weighty.
He said, “It is not possible for Ekere to have resigned so early. There are indications that Ekere might have been tolerating something, which he felt there was no need putting up with it anymore. And this may lead to his resigning so early.
A source, who confided in our correspondent, stated that Akpabio starved Ekere of funds.
He said, “Ekere fell out with Akpabio because of his interest in running for the PDP’s governorship ticket in 2015 election.
